Question:
How do I use Cooter’s Catfish & Crappie Catcher?
Answer:
The catcher is simple to use in any fishing environment.
- Step 1: Simply pull the spool lock (black tab) from the spool.
- Step 2: Unroll the desired length of fishing line.
- Step 3: Replace the spool lock
- Step 4: Attach your favorite fishing hook and weight (not included)
- Step 5: Bait and drop the Catfish & Crappie Catcher into your favorite fishing hole.
TIP: If you fish in the same area, Cooter has found it is faster to pre-set your depth so all you need to do is bait and drop in the water.
Question:
The line is difficult to spool out, is this a problem?
Answer:
Not at all. The catcher is built tough and over time the line will become easier to unwind as it creates the cavity in the flotation foam. You can however unspool the line and spool it back in a couple times to create the cavity before you take it out on the lake.
Question:
Are there any dangers to using a Catfish & Crappie Catcher?
Answer:
While the unit was designed as a simple tool, there are a few inherent risks.
- First of all, you have no control over what size fish will bite. Subsequently they good pull you out of the boat!
- Secondly, when you are retrieving your fish, Cooter recommends using a stout glove to prevent rope burn as the line is heavy duty and the fish don’t like the boat!
- Thirdly, as you pull in the fish, please use caution to make sure the line does not get wrapped around any body parts and make sure to keep the line away from your boats motor.
- As with all fishing supplies, please use caution in handling the hooks!
Question:
What purpose does the reflective tape on the sides of the Catfish & Crappie catcher serve?
Answer:
The reflective tape allows you to spot your Catfish & Crappie Catcher from up to 500 feet away, and will attract your attention in daylight and glow like a beacon at night under light.
Question:
Am I allowed to use the Catfish & Crappie Catcher nationwide?
Answer:
Each city/state have their own regulations when it comes to what you are allowed to fish with. Please consult your local Game & Fish Departments to check your local fishing regulations. For your convenience we have created a “regulations” page where you can find state specific information. Please note, Cooter does NOT guarantee the accuracy of this information so please double check to ensure you are following the law.
Question:
How deep should I fish?
Answer:
Cooter has found through many hours on the water that fishing 1 to 3 feet from the bottom produces the most consistent catches. However, fish have a mind of their own so you should experiment with the depth if the fish are not biting fast enough.
Question:
What should I use for bait?
Answer:
Cooter has fished in a lot of places but not everywhere. Check with your local bait shops and fisherman friends.
A word of caution, Cooter has had reports of alligators eating the catfish on catchers and becoming entangled in the line. Please be careful! The Catfish & Crappie Catcher is a floating buffet, and if it’s hungry whatever is in the water can be hooked.
Question:
Can I use the Catfish &Crappie Catcher as a fishing reel?
Answer:
The Catcher was designed with a spool as a line storage device. It was not made to act as a reel.
